Children & Bicycle/Wheels
Bicycles, in-line skates, roller skates, skateboards or scooters are all common wheeled transportation for children. So much more than a toy, “wheels,” such as bikes and scooters represent independence for children. Bicycles are associated with more childhood injuries than any other consumer product than the automobile. Other human-powered wheel transportation, such as in-line skates, roller skates, skateboards or scooters are increasing in popularity, and injuries are also on the rise. More than 70 percent of children ages 5 to 14 ride bicycles. These children account for approximately 21 percent of all bicycle-related deaths and nearly half of all bicycle-related injuries.
