Children & Motor Vehicles
Motor vehicle crashes result in more deaths per year than any other unintentional injury, causing 1 of every 3 injury deaths and are a major cause of brain injury. Properly installing the appropriate car seat for your child, as well as properly installing your child in the car seat can greatly reduce the chances of injury and death. Mecklenburg County studies (information gathered at local car seat clinics) show that 9 out of 10 car seats are installed incorrectly.
Children left unattended in or around cars are also at risk of injury and death. Safe Kids recommends children never be left alone in a vehicle, and that all vehicle drivers be aware of children, especially when in driveways and parking lots.
If you live in the Charlotte Metropolitan area and are seeking instruction or assistance with the installation of your child seat, PLEASE read this important document that will direct you to the agencies or individuals providing this service in our area. View the document here.
